Habits of Successful People
1. Take Baby Steps
“You Can’t Rush Something You Want to Last Forever”
Nothing big can ever happen all of a sudden. So, if you’re planning to become successful in your field, or even independent, you need to start taking baby steps.
To give you an example, you may take bigger steps and exhaust yourself. This is the exact same thing that happens when you’ve never worked out in your life and try doing 50 burpees! By the time you’re done you lose all your motivation and end up wasting your potential.
However, if you take it slow, you will stay motivated for a long amount of time.
Another thing is that if you set too difficult tasks for yourself, you may chicken out rather than going for it. So, make sure that you set reasonable goals for yourself and take it slow.
After all, slow and steady does win the race, right?
2. Organize and Prioritize
For our generation, organizing and prioritizing our goals and tasks is extremely tough. There are just so many distractions, right?
One minute you want to get up and study for that big test that can determine your future. The next you’re just binging on a book or a Netflix show because it is just too tempting to not continue.
Yet, one of the habits of successful people is to make sure that they organize as well as prioritize their tasks. Trust me, it may get hard but you can definitely do it.
All you have to do is invest in your goals in a way that no Netflix or YouTube can drag you away from them. You can also start having a “to-do list” and stick it anywhere in your bedroom to remember your tasks of the day.
So, once you prioritize your goals over other things, nothing can stop you girl!
3. Have a ‘Can Do It’ Attitude
2020 has been a year of negative feelings all around. However, it has also been a year of self-reflection. Many of us figured out what we wanted to do with our lives. Even if you haven’t yet, someday you will!
Now onwards, whenever you wake up, make sure that you wake up with an ‘I can do it’ attitude. Remember that, famous personalities such as Charlie Chaplin and Einstein too failed in their life. Yet, with their ‘can-do‘ attitude they rose up.
So, If you ever feel low and unsure about your big goals, remember that you’re not alone. You have your family and even your friends.
If nothing, you have your own company. Just give yourself a pep talk, cry it out if you want, and get up with your ‘I can do it!’ attitude. Trust me, once you achieve this level of confidence, not even fate can mess up with your plans.
4. Extend Your Circle
Sometimes, we get so engrossed with our own goals and life, that we absolutely forget about extending our personal and professional circle.
Yet, if you have noticed, all the influential and successful people have built their business by extending their circle. The lavish parties aren’t just about luxury but also about clicking big deals and collaborating businesses.
So, even if you have just started out with your goals, make sure that you communicate with people.
Networking can help in plenty of ways. Maybe you’ll come to know about new things that can bring you closer to your dreams. Or, maybe even an acquaintance can notice your good work and help you in getting a kick start.
If you’re not good at networking, you can try listening to the ‘Network Yourself to Success‘ podcast by Jonni Niemann.
5. Try to Adopt a Frugal Lifestyle
Not many of us know about the word ‘frugal’. Let me break it to you in a simple way.
By being frugal, it means that you learn how to make use of your resources, such as financial resources in a proper manner rather than spending it all away.
So, if you want to save some money to get closer to your dreams, go frugal. Empty that Amazon cart right now and get rid of the things you know you probably won’t use in the future. Instead, limit yourself to buying things when you feel like you’re in a dire need of them.
Now, if you’re into fashion and can’t control yourself from hoarding outfits, there are thrift shops available. In fact, famous models such as Bella Hadid also buy clothes from thrift stores!
To summarize, try to find cheaper alternatives that can help you in reaching your goals. In the end, each penny counts.
6. Fix Your Schedule
Sometimes, becoming successful can be achieved by doing something as simple as fixing your schedule.
You may think, ‘If I can finish my work at night, why does it matter at what time I sleep?’. Well, the harsh truth for all night-owls is that the body is used to sleeping during the night.
Due to this, if you’re reversing the cycle, you’re actually causing harm to your body. Drinking coffee can definitely help in staying up but can it help you from feeling exhausted the entire day? Probably not.
Moreover, successful people such as Oprah Winfrey and Tim Cook are early risers too!
7. Realize Your Strengths and Passions
The worst thing we can do to ourselves is trying to run behind something that we don’t even like.
Keep in mind that success is never about reaching the pinnacle. Instead, it is more about your journey of hard work and passion towards your goals.
So, if you’re wanting to get successful at something you don’t even have enough passion for, you may want to go for the thing that brings out your passion. Now, if you don’t have that option, try to find out what interests you in your job or what you’re extremely good at.
Once you find your passion and strengths, you will literally gravitate towards your success.
8. Develop the Habit of Reading
I cannot stress enough the importance of reading! Being a reader, I’ve found that many successful people, such as Bill Gates and Elon Musk read to gain more knowledge and get ideas.
When you read, for gaining knowledge or even for fun, you’re opening up yourself to a whole new set of possibilities.
For instance, reading good self-help and motivational books can actually motivate you to work for your dreams. You can also read the interviews, biographies, or autobiographies of people that inspire you.
So, if you were a reader as a kid, bring out that side and start reading in your leisure time.
9. Have a Plan
“Our Goals Can Only Be Reached Through The Vehicle Of A Plan. There Is No Other Route To Success” – Pablo Picasso
Just like how you need a blueprint to build a successful house, you also need a blueprint to build a successful life.
Keep in mind that successful people always have a plan. Not just one plan, they have back-up plans too in case things don’t go the way they want.
So, before you begin your journey towards your success, sit down, and start researching. Find out the various ways that can help in driving to your path of success in case one of them has a traffic jam!
10. Learn Self-Discipline
Adulting is one of the most confusing phases of our life. You’re just out there in the real world to fend for yourself.
Now, this is when you need to start disciplining yourself. Keep in mind that people are always there to find out something to manipulate and control you. However, if you have control over yourself, no one can act as a barrier between you and your success.
You may find successful people in plenty of controversies. Yet, they’re able to practice self-discipline and find their own way out of it rather than letting people affect them.
11. Have Courage and Be Kind
If you’re a hardcore Disney fan, you may have heard the quote, ‘have courage and be kind’. Turns out it can help you in becoming successful.
It is because when you have enough courage, you can stand up for yourself. You can deal with a toxic environment, and even, failures.
Keep in mind that success and failure are the sides of the same coin. You can’t avoid failure but if you’ve courage, you can definitely fight those failures.
Moreover, kindness is yet another precious trait in our ruthless world. Now, you may wonder that all successful people have done their fair share of bad deeds to reach where they are. However, that is one side you’re choosing to focus on.
Many successful people also practice kindness and have reached where they’re today with their friendly, helpful, and amicable nature.
12. Have Some ‘Me’ Time
Know that along with working hard, you also need to work smart. So, if you start feeling like your goals are dictating your life rather than you dictating them, then you may want to take some time off.
In your ‘me’ time, do the things that can help you relax. It can be anything, from taking a walk to reading a book to watching your favorite show. Mostly all the successful people take out some time to relax at least once in a while.
After all, even machines stop working when they’re overworked, we’re just humans!
Final Thoughts
Building a successful life can mean different things to different people. For you, it might be about getting successful in your professional life. On the other hand, it might mean something else to someone.
So, it is important to realize what your definition of ‘successful life’ is. Once you have that ‘Eureka!’ moment, accordingly, you can follow the habits of successful people to reach better heights.
